This year our race team decided that we do not want four-wheel drive at all times so we came up with the idea to use a clutch to supply power to the front wheels when we needed it. This gearbox needed to provide mounting for the clutch and support the new normal loads that the clutch caused. Additionally, we desired to have the gearbox support the whole load of the tensioner instead of supporting it with the frame so a large shear and bending load was also put on the gearbox. A variety of other small changes were made to the gearbox including increasing the amount of clamping screws to take the new shear and normal loads and introducing of a large NPT with a sight glass to view oil levels. But the design remained largely the same.
